Summer Jobs
Hi there. I am sixteen and looking for a part time summer job. I have been looking on the internet on websites such as job center, doing a google search for jobs in my area etc. However all the returns are jobs which are not suitable for me such as bar tender, sales assistant and so on. I am wondering if any one knows a good place to start looking for jobs. I am not a school leaver, but would like to continue the job into the next school year. Thanks for any advice.

Even if they say they already have a waiting list, don't take no for an answer, give them a copy anyway. Sounds mundane I know, but that's what I'm planning on doing, I actually have no other ideas, have looked on internet too but with no success. Have you tried signing up to a job agency, they could find some work for you...
My son is 17 and has good grades in his GCSE's and a distiction in a business BTEC, and to date has applied for-214 jobs of all descriptions . He has changed his cv several times and approached the application forms in several different ways but to no avail. He is smart in appearance and sociable but the main problem seems to be that he has no experiance;well how can he get any if nobody gives him a chance? He has even started to tick all the hour slots on everyday of the week in the hopes of a job. All he wants is the same as you ,a summer job that he could keep when he goes back to college in September.
Hi, your potential availability may be working against you here. Some employers obviously need people to be available on a full time permanent basis otherwise it is a waste of time and effort spent training them. The reality could be that you may have to settle for the summer jobs i.e sales assistants, restaurants etc until you are in a position to be able to work full time. Or another suggestion is to approach a potential employer and offer your services free of charge for a short period of time. If you can prove your worth, they may take a chance on employing you. Best of luck, Sue.
You could try calling or writing to every company in the phone book that you wouldn't mind working for and asking them if they have anything. Really sell yourself and include a CV. When i was younger i wanted to work with young children so i wrote to every nursery, playschool, creche etc until i got an interview!
It is hard and i did actually work in Sainsburys at your age as it was all i could get and its not too bad pay. I was able to work after school and more in holidays. I only worked there for about year when i was 15 and i think it helped in getting jobs i wanted after as it meant i had work experience and they knew i was reliable. Sometimes you have to start with a job you dont really want before getting what you do.
Good luck .

My first job at 16 was a glass collector in a local bar. I had a great time & loved every minute of it, but it was only Friday & Saturday nights I was working. On the plus side, it did help me to secure bar work when I turned 18 which has been really helpful while I'm at college. So it might be worth asking around a few bars or pubs if they need glass collectors. A lot of my friends of that age did waitressing too.
Hi,
I think it will be a good idea for you to work on the Internet. See what you find on: freelance, elance, rent a coder. Another possibility, taking into consideration your age would be to work for a newspaper, or as a babysitter, for a restaurant. But for this kind of jobs you need to prepare a bit ( I mean you need a cv , a resume, ...) that is why I advise you to visit this site and learn more about:
