I was off work for 2 weeks - I self certified for the first week and went to see my GP the beginning of the second week. My GP diagnosed Sinusitis and signed me off work until the following Monday (2 weeks in total). My GP also gave me a signed private GP note for work. Sick pay where I work is discretionary however I was under the impression that if you had a GP note, your employer was obliged to pay you. I was only paid SSP for the 2 weeks I had off despite giving in my GP note. Does anyone know whether I am right? Thanks all.
If sick pay is at the management's discretion then they dont have to pay you even if you have a sicknote. They only have pay you if it says you are entitled to payed sick leave in your contract of employment.
