I currently work in a call centre, on July 8th I saw my doctor about an ear infection and unfortunatly it is still not sorted out. I have a hearing dysfunction which means i cannot do phone work. My employer has now said after 8 weeks of doing other duties that i cannot complete my contracted duties, and i was sent home after being in work for about 15mins.I was told i would have to be signed off. My doctor has refused to sign me off as i can do other work and my contract states they will make reasonable adjustments to my job role if needed due to sickness. I myself also need to be in work as i cannot afford to be off. I am now off work and not getting paid. I have provided my employer with a medical letter which i paid 15 for stating i can do all other work. What do i do next?
any advice would be great.

thanks

It is good employment practice to make adjustments if an employee cannot do the normal job because of a temporary health issue. But there is no legal obligation (the situation is a bit different in cases of pregnancy - when an employer must demonstrate very clearly it has looked at alternatives).
For 8 weeks, your employer has made alternative arrangements and it now seems to be saying 'look, this isn't a temporary situation'. It has probably reached the conclusion that there is no end date in sight for this situation. Sorry, but I don't believe there is anything more that you can do - it has made 'reasonable adjustments' to your job role for 8 weeks. Obviously, in a Call Centre the vast majority of jobs involve using the phone. Only you can judge whether there are enough non-phone-based jobs around the patch to make the case with your employer.
