waiting to hear back still!

Just after anyones thoughts or opinions really to stop me feeling so irrational!! :(

I went for an interview for a job that I believe I am perfect for about 5 weeks ago. They told me I'd hear back in a couple of weeks which took us to Christmas Day, so I didn't expect to actually hear anything until the New Year. The closing date for applications was a week after my interview. I told them I was going away until the 4th January and I hadn't heard anything either way by post, email or phone so I left it a week after coming home to call for an update. I called midday yesterday and left a message with reception (the manager's line was busy) and then called again at 4.30 and left another message with a different girl on reception (this time the manager was in a meeting). To be honest, she was quite snotty to the concept that I was even calling again after leaving a message the first time and therefore suggesting that her colleague hadn't passed it on.

If they haven't made a decision then fine, but if they have (and I haven't got it) then a courtesy call would be nice! I haven't done the interview thing for a long time, but if they had perhaps extended the deadline or things had been delayed for whatever reason they would've let me know, surely? It's over a month since I met with them and it's a worldwide company I'd have expected better communication from.

How would you feel if you were waiting to hear back? Would you just leave it now or call again / email them?

It's typical because I've been for 3 interviews now and this is the only one I want - I've heard back from the others!!

personally, I think it's really rude of them but unfortunately, that's how people/companies are.

weigh it up.. are they now the kind of people you want to work for? maybe you've had a lucky escape.

Sorry to say it, but i highly doubt you'll hear anything from them.

Dont beat yourself up about it - the amount of jobs i have applied for in the past, but never heard anything back, is crazy.
It's just the way companies are nowadays - if they're not interested (and it's not through an agency), chances are they wont be in contact again.

Move on and keep applying for jobs

Similar thing happened to me once. Company promised me faithfully they'd let me know either way by a certain date, but a week later they still hadn't.

I figured whether I got the job or not, if they were going to muck me about like this at this stage then I didn't hold out much hope of them being a decent employer. So I wrote to them saying thanks for taking the time to interview me but that I couldn't consider working for them at the current time. However, I did wish them success in finding a suitable candidate. Basically, a reverse of the 'thanks-but-no-thanks' letters they always send to us.

Three days later I had a very polite letter saying (surprise surprise) that I hadn't been successful. But you know, they - and their job - were so insignificant in the grand scheme of things that I can't even remember what they were called.

thanks guys for your replies, i thought exactly the same thing but thought i was possibly over reacting, it's good to know it's not just me it seemed a bit rude to.

Anyway, bit of an update for you, I couldn't resist emailing after not hearing anything today and I finally got a reply. I wasn't surprised, but it said that I was a very strong candidate but I had been unsuccessful; the position had been filled and HR were supposed to be issuing letters.

Like you all say, the chances are the position was filled a while ago and they were probably not intending to let me know!!

I'm a great believer in 'everything's meant for a reason' so fingers crossed something bigger and better will turn up soon.

I think you did the right thing. You gave your time and effort to attend the interview and put in the legwork to ensure that you were seen as a suitable professional candidate, surely you have a right to expect for them to be professional in their capacity, to do their job properly and contact you in good time? It sounds like perhaps you have had a lucky escape from this one! Best of luck in your search for a suitable position.
