becoming a teacher
1 Answers
Im 20 and wanting to become a primary school teacher. At the moment i just started working part time as a youth worker, which i have been doing voluntary for 5 years. i have a caution on my crb for making off without payment / theft act. Happened when i just turned 18 and decided stupidly to run away from a taxi without paying. Big mistake! recieved a police caution for my actions.
I am wondering whether this will effect my chances of becoming a primary school teacher, and getting into a university?
Help!!!
Thankyou

The simple answer is that it would depend on the extent of the CRB check done on you, if one is done. A so-called "standard check" would not reveal it, but a more elaborate one would.
However, you can put "no" on an application form were you to be asked if you'd ever had a caution.
A caution has to be declared for certain occupations, teacher being one. A caution is normally what they call "stepped down" after 5-10 years.
Hope this helps.
