I work for a small company without a contract and have been off sick for 3 days, my employer does not pay sick pay. A friend of mine has told me that by law if you have worked for a company for 1 year or longer they have to pay sick pay. Is this true ?
If your are off sick for 4 consecutive days (inc weekends & bank hols) then you will be entitled to statutory sick pay which is currently about 62.50. However, this is the case for contractual work. I would be concerned if I had no contract what would be the situation if I suffered an injury at work....would I be insured??? I would certainly get professional advice on this situation to protect your interest.
I like MistyLady would be concerned that you don't have a contract, may I suggest that you search the web and find out what exactly is required in a contract or visit/call your local Citizen Advice office they will have info you require. Hope this helps :)
