Sorry, HW, didn't see your comment there...

Yes it is a very formal look, think it's better than one of the other schools in town, the pupils have to wear bright purple blazers :)
As long as schools still have uniforms, it doesn't really matter what they're like.

But I think they should include some sort of distinctive markings or colouring.
Bright purple sounds good.
White shirt
Grey tank top with school logo(just for extra cost!)
Black pants
Black blazer-ditto logo
Tie-worn as slobby as is fashionable but looks awful
No unnatural hair colours(bright blonde is natural apparently)
More make up than is necessary
Boys hair longer than collar length if fashionable
Regulation school coat-no logo
Grey socks
Black shoes-NO trainers(lol)
Year 11 must wear fake tan on face and legs only-leave the neck for that natural look-ditto back of knees.
Well how things have changed!
that was a big look in the 80s ayabrea! I remember it well, inflammable big hair was a must to set the look off
Uniforms should be distinctive ... both in colour, and in style.

It's a bonding thing ...a sense of belonging.

Like when you get off the sports bus at another school ...

You want the kids at that school to see a wave of your uniform, spilling out into their school ... invading their patch ... coming to beat them.

And you want to be part of that wave. That's what traditional uniforms do.
My niece started secondary school this year and it surprised me that they don't have shirts, just polo tops with the school logo on them. However they have so much clobber they have to have, all purchased from the school, inlcuding the PE kit. Cost my poor sis a fortune! They are also really strict. She got a warning in her first week when a teacher spotted she had the wrong socks on.
My son's old school still has the same uniform ten years on from when he left:

Black trousers
White, pale blue or gold coloured shirt
School tie
Grey, navy or black V-neck sweater
School blazer with badge
Black shoes

Sweatshirts may only be worn after year 9 and polo shirts are completely off the list.

White t-shirt and shorts for indoor games, tennis and athletics, school rugby shirt and red shorts for rugby/football/cross-country.

And no, it's not a private school.
What about 6th forms?

My daughter's school 10 years ago dispensed with uniforms altogether.

(before someone hits the straight line - they still wore clothes)
