long term (12 month job with 3 month probation period...and potential to continue indefinitely) with decent-ish wages for a prestigious tv company on a very famous tv show.

or 3 month highly paid job...(£12,000) ...which involves a hollywood star, which ends totally after 3 months...

any thoughts?

Well how often is the second chance going to come along... It could look good on the CV too. Any chance you could get a sabbatical in which you don't get paid for the other job? Tough call, I guess I would go with whichever would serve me best in my long term goal.

i havent actually got the second job yet, so just considering options...but i have the second one...so it may never happen but just have to consider it

its been quiet fir work last few years because of credit crunch etc, and searching for work is so tedious, so thatd be a benefit...but ive ben involved in the 3 month job for a long time waiting for it to start and now its finally getting off the ground and i may not get to do it...very frustrating...

i dont think theyd allow me time off to do it...as theyd have to fill my job...

the star wouldnt help me directly but his name on the film creates publicity and kudos, and the chance to meet other influential crew...so could be an amazing opportunity - not to mention all the other not-so big but well known names...

also just discovered that the first one is probably higher paid than i thought and may even be more than the other one

if so ill go for that one...its a shame to miss the film after all the effort ive put in though...

Head or heart joko! Sounds like the first one is the most sensible option, but the heart is in the second one.

It depends how often work comes your way. If you're young, carefree or able to take a chance on the film then heart wins. If you need more security then listen to your head and get to that TV studio.

yes maidup - i feel more 'into' film stuff...possibly because ive done more film than TV, and probably, in this case, because i have been involved in this film for over a year, helping get it to shoot, but with the credit crunch work has been very sparse over the last couple of years, and i am sick of being skint and bored....so i have no idea if things will pick up and ill get enough work in future...plus id like the security and the chance to get thoroughly involved in a project
however, i am lucky enough now to be at a level finally to be paid pretty well in films, for my years of struggle and freebies...but still...

saying that the tv show is a great opportunity and i have no doubt id love it...its just if i dont i am stuck with it for a year...

sorry just thinking out loud really...dont mean to sound at all negative...

i am sure whatever happens it will be great - im worrying over nothing really...but id be silly not to mull things over i guess...

will let you know what happens...

Depends on the individual. Personally I prioritise security, and have no inclination to put actors nor actresses on a pedestal. But I can understand those willing to take higher pay and expect a time out of work, especially if they get something to put on their resume into the bargain. I guess the steady salary may make a difference if "decent" equated "to not up to much".

oh i dont put anyone on a pedestal...i just know that a big name attached means more money and attention for the movie...and therefore me....for suture opportinities etc

I'd go for the permanent option - those 3 months on the second one will soon be over - but I'd vote for security any time.

just an update...discovered the fee...pretty low considering the profile of the show, i am quite surprised..considering the role i think they are taking the pish... probably going to go for the film... can make similar money in a fraction of the time...and still have the option of time to do more...
