What's the consequences if i walk out of a job? Only been there 3 months with no signed contract.

You won't get a reference, no signed contract doesn't mean anything. You presumably get paid, you have a contract.

I agree with the above answers. They could sue you for breach of contract but I doubt they would bother. What notice are you required to give? It may only be one or two weeks- can you hang on that long?

I agree with the reference bit and you will get remaining pay up to the day you left, but thats it, nothings going to happen.

My understanding of an employer's reference these days is that it can only confirm the dates and role you filled. They are not allowed to say anything personal like lazy so and so or divulge sickness absence. Only a personal referee can sing your praises (or whatever).

I thought that an employer's reference was able to sing your praises, but not allowed to *** you off. If I were you, I'd serve my notice. Do it properly. Don't burn your bridges.

Depending on why you are walking it could make for issues getting other interviews or jobs if you could come across as unreliable, especially if there is a reference issue. Is there a good explainable reason that another employer is likely to understand? Maybe partly depends on the kind of jobs you are going for unless you already have one hence why you want to walk.

If a person leaves employment voluntarily or is dimissed for misconduct, Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) can be sanctioned (stopped) for up to twenty-six weeks. For leaving voluntarily, unless the person shows what is called "just cause" for doing so, a sanction will be imposed..

I'm not sure where or when this misconception came about. So long as the reference is accurate (and can be backed up by documentary evidence if necessary) then the employer can give whatever kind of reference he or she likes.

Can't see why you'd want to 'walk out' of a job. Work your legal notice, it's only a week, and it will save any problems now or in the future.

Must be nice to have the luxury to just walk out on a job and the pay that goes with it. I dont know about references but as others have said you will be hard pushed to get any benefits for 26 weeks as you left your employment of your own choice.

In my last job I had to sack a girl, basically she was taking the pee with her sickies. When a reference form arrived for her the boss ticked the "I would employ her again" box!!

Walk! If thats how you feel, just do it. There's no better feeling. Then go find another job but be prepared to do anything - I have done this twice and signed up with an agency washing up, cleaning, doing anything to bring in money till I got another proper job. No-one should have to stay in a job if they hate it or are being treated like broccoli.

My answer was based on where I work. HR will not provide any details, good or bad, when asked for an employer's reference just dates of employment. Too worried about any comeback and you can't blame them these days.

My question is WHY do you want to walk out of your job, what is it you are not enjoying? Dont cut your nose off to spite your face, unless you have another job lined up or are that well off you can choose what work you do, then try and stick it out...many of us would like to just walk out of our jobs but sadly it is not the climate to do so for the forseeable future.
