Earnings & Tax credits
14 Answers
Hi
I wondered if any one can help me. I started a job last year & told the tax credit people
( my husband & I get both working & child tax credits) of my income, and to my suprise my amounts of child tax credit went up.
I have now been offered more hours & wondered if the child tax credit I receive will go up again, it did seem a bit strange that my awards went up last year but I was assured that this was correct.
I will be earning just below the income tax threshold, although I always do inform the tax office of my earinings, even when I was only earning £20 per week.
I have 1 dependant child now who doesn't need childcare.
Any ideas Ta.

I don't think any of the above answers your question - probably because it can't be answered without quite a bit more info. - as helen indicated.
However, as a generalisation if your husband was already working above 30 hours p wk & you (as a couple) were already getting both child & working tax credits then any increase in income (i.e. total income for the two of you) would result in a reduction in tax credits. But this would not come about straight away - it would probably not happen until the next tax year after you started work.
So if the above is the situation I can't understand how your child TC went up, & NO - it should not go up again if your hours increase.
