I have acupuncture treatment once a fortnight and it works for me but I always hesitate to recommend it in case it doesn't work for other people. When I started it I didn't think it would work and when after a couple of treatments it did I was pleasantly surprised. Perhaps the same would apply to hypnosis.
Hypnotherapy is excellent. Forget about the showbiz hypnotists who can make you bark like a dog or drop your drawers when a certain word is said. They are all charlatans and VERY dangerous. I had a stammer and in the 60s I went to my doctor who recommended a hypnotherapist. I attended 3 private sessions and my stammer went. I've since advised other stammerers to do the same and with successful results. A friend, a VERY heavy smoker, also went to a hypnotherapist and she also had good results and hasn't smoked for over 10 years. I have to say though that this is not for everyone, especially the sceptical. You have to BELIEVE it can work, you have to WANT it to work. For me it was a great success but maybe it's not for everyone. Worth a try though. Avoid the dodgy "trick end-of-the pier" entertainers though. They should be shot ! Good luck.
i believe it can work if you have the right sort of mind...some people are very open to it, others it just wont work on...i think i may the latter unfortunately, as ive tried tapes etc a lot and i tried it once with a therapist, and i just couldnt get anywheer with it - although, it could have been because the guy had not really considered the environment...bright light, no floaty music, and uncomfortable chair, slightly chilly - and a baby in the corner of the room!...
my advice is if you do go, take a light blanket and an eye mask (i felt quite self conscious, because he sat 2ft in front of me a stared at me, which is not good)
perhaps look into self hypnosis and sumbliminal cds etc...if you are susceptible then they may save you a fortune...diviniti might be a good place to look

I have never tried hypnosis, but have a friend it did wonders for, i guess it depends on the person, i can say that i have had CBT and for me that worked, but some people say it hasnt for them, so all in all, these things depend on how much you want the change, and what personally works for you, trial and error i guess. Sorry if this hasnt been much help.
For the peeps that have experienced it....do you lose consciousness, or do you stay awake throughout?
I have four sessions booked, but I'm not sure that I believe it will work and I am a wee bit worried that I might, while not being fully aware, blurt out that I think the fella's a conman, or something equally insulting. :o/

yes I did mrs c, I also went to our local Police Club where there was one on, a friend of ours is a very quiet unassuming person, she was persuaded to get up on stage with her hubby, they were told they were "washing machines" no less, poor Beverley was rolling round and round and getting faster as she went into spin
