Hi - i've sent off my application form to the GTTR for courses to be a Business Studies teacher at secondary level. Now i've sent it off, i'm worried I won't get on a course!  I have a 2:1 4 yr honours degree in management studies, 3 years work experience in a company and a few months hands on experience in a couple of schools. What do you think my chances are? I can assure you I am committed - and hopefully this came across in my application form. I sent it off a few weeks ago - how soon will i start hearing from Unis? (this is in the north yorks area). any advise helpful. thanks

There is nothing you can do but sit and wait.  You have sent it back and i am sure you will be brought in for an interview.  See indiesingers previous post for advice on the interview stage.

I cant see any reason why you would not be given an interview based upon your experience.

How soon you will hear back is dependent on the quantity of applications and how efficient they are, unfortunately there is nothing you can do to guess the timescale.

You've made the decision thats what you wanna do so you've got to just trust your ability now !

good luck

Aww, thanks Willow, I appreciate that. It's so hard not knowing what's happening! I just want to know!! keep your fingers crossed for me!

I will keep everything crossed for you !   I

I am sure it will be fine as you have the degree, work experience and hands on knowledge of schools, basically all what they want from applicants.

Let us know WHEN you get the interview letter !

Hi Hugoboss,

I completed a PGCE in Secondary Business Education 2 years ago.  I had no previous experience with children but plenty of commercial experience in business as did most people on my course.  Having a hands-on experience in business is exactly what they are looking for so your three years experience plus a business gives you an excellent chance to be accepted onto the course.

The whole application process takes a while, which I found frustrating.  I found myself checking the GTTR website continuously to find out what stage my application was at.  It may seem like ages but remember everyone is waiting as long.

My advice to help you get accepted onto the course is to spend some time in your local secondary school sitting in on some of the business classes.  Speak to the business studies teacher and ask them as many questions as they are willing to answer.

Anyway, good luck and if you need any advice whatsoever, please post another message.
