A few weeks ago my dept announced the names of 10 people who were moving jobs once they had completed training. Two people were then imediatelty removed as it transpired that they were on holiday during the training period, and my name was then added. I immediately told my manager that i too was on holiday and would not be able to undergo training. She returned after discussion with her managers and said that as i was a quick learner i would pick the new job up as i went along.i was not happy with this reply and so then was assured that i would get training... I have now raised a greivance as i feel that when selecting this new team they failed to include everyone as they did not include any one on part year working or annual leave. (apart from me) My manager says i have no grounds for raising a greivance but i feel so angry at this decision. Am i being stupid? or has the dept discriminated against me? Also i applied for a vacancy while this was in development and i have again been excluded from applying. Please advise?

Any change in your contract - or to a group of people - should be done only after consultation, unless the company can apply extenuating circumstances. What sort of place do you work? Do you have an HR department? It might be worth consulting ACAS - their helpline is free and impartial and they can advise on all sorts of employment issues.

I am a civil servant and i feel that the dept will quote extenuating circumstances as theneed bums on seats asap, but what i feel bitter about is that two other people were removed because of holidays and i have lost a little money and given little reason.I have returned this week and no training has been sorted for me and the preious two peoplewere both a wrk last week when that training took place as it apears to be this wek that they ae off? i want to challenge it but i am not sure under what grounds i can do this under.i shall fone ACAS tomorrow.
In your organisation (as in mine, also in the public sector) you will have an HR department - I suggest you also consult them. The current spending cuts are meaning huge reorganisations for all of us, but we have been given the statutory month's consultation on all planned changes.

Cheers Mark will do a bit of investigation tomorrow with ACAS and HR.
ahem, who's Mark?

LOL, no prob, averil - let us know tomorrow how you get on.

I sure will. Nice to be able to discuss with others.
If you work in the Civil Service with all the cutbacks and job losses, then surely you should be a union member. If not, then I suggest you join and get their advice. ACAS is good, but is now having problems dealing with so many work related issues.

FOned ACAS and they gave me some advice. Not quite sure about it all but will have a go with my grievance really. I am a union member so will also speak with them but was waiting on the chap returning to work as he was on leave. Cheers for all replies,
