just seen a girl on tv around 15 with two rings in her nose and two studs either side of here mouth, that's her privilege i know but if she were turned down for jobs because of this and was asked by dhss to remove them to make her more employable could she then say that was against her human rights and so continue to live on benefit ?
just a thought

I might be wrong but I think a potential employer could get in trouble for refusing her the job on those grounds alone.
I think they look jolly.
Jolly? They look vile. I'm afraid it puts me off completely - why do it?

you maybe right
They're fun.
Face furniture never looks good!
how fun, jj? They're grotesque.
depends on the job, I should think. If she was to be dealing with the public in person, an employer could say she's not meeting their dress code; if she was working at night in the boiler room, perhaps not.
That looks -er - cultural, jno!
jno that's gross!
I hope the person deggers saw isn't 15 - I thought you couldn't have piercings until 16, then only with parental approval. What parent would say yet to that sort of disfigurement?
SO not an extreme example there then, jno ... LOL

Oh, come on ... the young people like it. It's just a trend.
oh, they're all like that down in Brighton, JJ's just developed immunity
Sorry deggers, we are digressing from your OP.... I'd agree with the comment about dress code. If she has to wear it, it'd be in her own time, if she worked for me, not in work hours.
just very, very sad....
My sister's a carer and not been turned down because of any of her piercings... they do come out afterall. I quite like eyebrow piercings but I wouldn't suit the look.
Suppose she could claim Human Rights and leave them in. An employer would probably ask in the interview if she could take them out. If she refused then she'd probably get turned down.

I work (Sports shop) with a girl who has her tongue pierced and she had to take the bar out. She wears it all the time now and no-one has said anything. Another had to take a nose stud out.
well, it is extreme, JJ, but would that affect the original question about her right to wear them in a place of employment? Is there some sort of permissible limit for the DHSS?
dunno
