Allowance for at work

My girlfriend was unfortunate to lose her job. She has been on JSA for 2 weeks and now has anther one. This new job pays monthly and from what she has said, they have just paid the monthly wage and you have to work a month in advance, so it could be up to 7 weeks till she gets paid. Is there an allowance to help her to get to and from work, she can not get job seekers as she has work, but is there any other allowance that she may be intitled too?

Is the company one who would be sympathetic to her situation and advance anything ? Failing that a loan from the bank manager may help.

I was in a similar position but gave up applying for support. Crisis loans are available but one requirement was that you had to have been out of work for more than 6 months, so she wouldn't qualify.
I suppose many people who work have to wait until the end of the month before they get paid.

Unfortunately there is no other benefit your GF can claim, she is not in an unusual situation. The rate of pay and frequency is a principle statement and your GF should have been aware of the situation, which I know will not help. Most people explain their situation and ask their employer for an advance of salary, good employers will usually provide this if they understand the position, but I can understand some reluctance in asking for an advance of salary with a new job and the employer is under no obligation to provide it. The only other option will be too ask family and friends for a loan.

When did she leave her last job and how many weeks' pay did she get when she left?

Thank you for your answers abers. hopefully the company will be sympathetic to her situation, but as you have mentioned she isn't alone. Just have to work through it like everyone else

she could arrange an authorised overdraft from her bank, use that then pay it back when she gets paid in 7 weeks time, as she'll be receiving more than a months salary presumably?
