This proposal then throws all this out of the window, at a time when we are going through huge changes and people are fearful for their jobs. We haven't had a pay rise in three years anyway, not even cost of living, so where's the equity in that?
Probably not, but it's storing up problems for the future. And it's pretty counterproductive for economies in depressed areas - people spend about 80% of their income in their immediate locality.
As *we're all in this together*, I'd be interested to know if Osborne's also proposing regional variations in MP's salaries too. Or is that where the rate for the job argument still holds good?

well, perhaps by way of compensation, people in deprived areas will be able to drive on cheap Chinese roads while those in the big cities have to pay through the nose for German autobahns
