Anyone got any tips on how to become a nurse? I am 40 years old and looking at a career change, I am currently an office manager which I have done for years but have always wanted to be a nurse and do not want to leave it too late! I have minimum qualifications so I think I may need to do an access course....anyone got any tips as I dont know where to start...

M friend just did exactly this, finished uni last Sept. She had to do her GCSE's then an access course, after that uni for 3 years, took 5 years in total. She loved every minute of it. Your local college should have detiails about how to go about it.

Aw thanks I will call my local college to see what they say, I wanted to do it 10 years ago but didnt and dont want to leave it another 10 years!!
Go for it rainbow, it was a lot of hard work for my friend (she was a 35 year old hairdresser with very little qualifications) but she loved it, she's now district nursing and she loves that too. Start inquiring now for September courses, good luck.
You can definitely search " registered nurse " in google . You will get numerous websites that will guide you properly .
Black stockings..an upside down watch some dettol perfume and your in .........no seriously..a friend has 1 year to go and she loves every minute....just watch out for the randy doctors :-)
Ex nurse... beware its not the career it was...far less patient contact lots more paperwork, less scope to use initiative and huge workload... TBH I would say think very very carefully.
Read this thread before you decide to be a nurse !

Just qualified- plenty people your age in my course- very difficult course and trying at times!!! I worked 55h a week at times NOT including the essaysand exams ontop of that- sitting with a degree which isnt optional now you must do a degree......and NO job. And no sign of one....

That aside, i absolutley LOVE what i do. Xx
Btw you will need to do an acess course which is a year at college and takes you to 2nd year at uni- 3yr degree in total..... Thats in scotland anyway!!!! I had enough to do uni from start but plenty done that in my class ...

Anything i can help with give me a shout...x
