Other than that two are odd and one is even, I can't see a way of telling
Question Author
i know that, but what are the numbers
If you meant the number are 6,7,8,9,10,12

The answer is 2, 4, 5
any 2 odds - you choose + 1 even - again choose one
What Roslyn said.

hc4361, no i didn´t mean 6,7,8,9,10+12.
the numbers were as i said, 6,7,8,8,10+12.
it was an exam question i was going over with my 12 yr old pupil.
I´m now convinced muffin bear was right. Because i just cannot see how you can work out the actual numbers.
I think there is an error in the question...
Is this the exact wording of the question? Because, for example, it doesn't even say the discs have numbers on them. Also it does not mention probability, so the discs could be coins or game tokens or even (from a Google search) Karate fighting form yell locations!

If it's not the exact wording, please provide the exact wording to give us a chance ...
but there is nothing in the question to say that the discs couldn't be 1,0001, 972 and 1,000,000
Question Author
yes i agree, the question is a tad vague, but this was the exact wording.
then Muffinbear has given the "right" answer. can you go back to the teacher and ask what the right answer is and why?
Question Author
i will wolfgang
Question Author
Yes muffinbear you were right!!
i was convinced that i needed to find 3 numbers, but apparently they weren´t that important.

cheers

If that is the exact wording of the question it is indeed badly worded. The only answer can be, as others have said, two odd and one even.
Question Author
are you serious zebuk?
9 cause it says you have 9 discs in the bay so 3 disc numbered 9
Hi weecalf- where do you you get 9 from? One must be even, for a start. And where does it say what the range of numbers is- they aren't numbered 1-9 because numbers 10 and 12 are in there.
Have you now checked piggy that muffin's answer was the expected and correct one? Very oddly worded question.
It says I have 9 discs in a bag .To me that say I have discs numbered 9 so they are called the 9 disc
