Does anyone on here know anything about claiming your state pension and at the same time claiming child tax credit. Which I know is probably an unusual state of affairs !

Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for grandparents to be left with with their grandchildren to bring up. Death or imprisonment or very serious illness or addiction on the part of the children's parents can all-too-frequently leave grandparents bringing up a second generation.
