How can I go about getting a Class 1 LGV Licence.
I hold a PSV Licence and a full ordinary driving licence, which entitles me to drive a 7.5 ton van, which I currently drive in work.

Crack, think about it very seriously!! the job is not worth spending in excess of a £1000 just to get abused by customers, traffic lackeys that's never been behind the wheel of a HGV but expect you to be at B before you have even set off from A, been there seen the video 40+ years, times have obviously changed from Flat Beds to Tauts but the sht is still the same, whatever you do, & I know Its hard if you have no exp in the loading areas, keep away from Agencies, they will rip you off, you hold a PSV, there is a vast difference regards that & driving a HGV + wage & conditions belive me, but at the end of the day, its your choice.
It can work, TWR but cracker, you can drive up to 7.5 tons on an ordinary driving licence, you can still do freight without going up to LGV/HGV.
Hi Boxy, If I remember your OH is a HGV driver?? I am not in the habit of Bull shting, but I would think very seriously, the job is not the same as it was, we never used to drive like the "Glory boys" Stobart & their polished Scania, Ask half of their driver's to rope / chain, Chinese a trailer they would not have a bloody clue what you are talking about.
Freight driver, TWR, but not HGV.
A short story Boxy, a friend of mine was working through an agency at Preston Lancs they sent him to a firm Locally in Blackburn, I am not in the habit of telling lies, his wage for that 40hrs week worked out at £5.50 per hr, I am aware of the Min wage, I know your area the rates are higher, but would anyone in their right mind drive a 44 ton destruction machine, at times carrying goods / fluids that could wipe out a whole town for the money that they ( The drivers earn) then get rollicked because they are 10 mins late? I have been there Boxy, but I soon got out of it.
