Verbal abuse at work place
8 Answers
Myself and my colleague were verbally abused last weekend by another colleague who works in another department. I think this kind of behaviour is unacceptable , I have informed my team leader and he basically said another lady will join my team and the abuse should stop.
What do you all think about this? Should I log this as formal complaint or leave it for now and hope it does not happen again.
Regards,
Newbie.

The abuser was helping us as he is experienced in the work we are doinng. My colleague and the abuser was engaged in a lengthy discussion and has different views in the way we do things etc.
The abuser suddenly using the F**** word toward my colleague and me. At that point I told the two to stop and have 5 minutes break. I then phoned my team leader to come into the office but I didn't tell him about the verbal abuse we received. I just told him to come into the office to keep an eye on things so we could get on track to deliver things on time. We then continued to work very hard and manged to deliver the work on Monday morning.
When we handed in the work on Monday, the Manger called a meeting and asked us to explain why we were late for the delivery of the work. We explained to them that it is a management issue, they didn't know what they want and no scope of work. When they know what they want, it was too late us to produce on time.
The reason myself and my colleague didn't react when the guy using the F*** word toward us, we had no choice because we felt that we needed his help on the work we were doing.
We worked over 90 hours last week and we don't even get paid fore the over time. It was purely a management issue. We fixed it in the end, and we still been blamed!! Now we are so upset that the team leader didn't even want to raise the verbal abuse as a this as a concern.
I hope this sets the scene a bit.....

firstly, 90 hours unpaid overtime, you're being shafted, secondly, he may have been under the same pressure you were, he may have sworn in exasperation, thirdlyif you need to take this to grievance before you take issue with your employer over the excessive unpaid overtime then you must be very happy in your work
My colleague and I are professional engineers, when we are committed to do something, we will do it to the end. Our reputation is everything.
As for the unpaid over time, we can't expect anything going to happen as out employment contract does not pay OT.
When I attended another team meeting a few days after we handed the work, The guy tried to play tricks on me, i.e he raised a concern regarding to the work we handed in. When I asked him to be more specific what the concern was about he said I mentioned it to him on the other day. When I denied this he then said it must be my colleague who mentioned it. I later asked my colleague and he said he never mentioned anything to him. SO my conclusion is that he is trying to play tricks on me. I am not sure what to do now as I need to work with this guy as we are on the same project.
Maybe its time to find another job.
