Saturday in work..

No so much a question here, just a massive grumble!!

Psychologically, I could always accept that saturday was just another working day for me, I chose this field of work, 1 weekend off in 4!

Recently I HATE working weekends and I am suddenly very aware after all these years that 90% of my friends and family are socialising, golfing, going to the football, shopping etc.....

Is this a sign I need to change my job??

I'd say so. After I left school I never applied for jobs which involved saturdays, back then you could be picky though, nowadays everything seems to open or need staff over the weekend.

Work 1pm - 9pm today, bad enough but at least got some of the evening left I guess!

I would advise becoming a school teacher. They never seem to be short of a bob or 2, they have every weekend off and have a massive 13 weeks holiday per year. Can anyone beat that amount of holiday time?

I can, I get 25 days annual leave and 175 rest days

No way would I be a teacher, no matter how much time off they get.

I worked continental shifts for almost 35 years. 2 weekends off in 5. The real benefit came when I got made redundant and both my redundancy pay and my pension included the unsocial hours and the w/e premium pay in their calculations. A nice little boost to the nest-egg.

just worked 6 days straight with 2 late (8pm) finishes but only did 9-3.30 today as had a night out tonight. But after 3 decades of working in retail I guess I'm used to flexible working. Jd it's probably just a phase,you love your job really.

You just keep on working ! It don't matter what day of the week it is. It will always be better than not working !

If you are able to , yes,I worked weekends, bank holidays nights, all sorts of shifts all my life and it is wearing, the plus side is the money ,I earned more for a sat/sun shift, than my basic wage

I hated working Saturdays jd! How many days off a week do you get? I'm a teacher who could well 'do' but what I love to do is teach young children. And yes, the holidays are brilliant, but lots of out of hours working including at weekends, planning etc and things like Christmas fairs.

I manage my own time but there is a requirement for me to be on site at the peak times which include weekends, bank hols etc... So I am quite flexible mon-thur each week. I am on a 42hr per week contract. Its not too bad but I have done it for a decade now!

Take a look around on the job market. Not a lot out there that pays a sensible wage. If you can find better and get security in an interesting job, go for it.
