Re;- Email addressing details.
I have been receiving Emails from a friend for years and all of a sudden their address has had a bit added on;- for instance- their address is usually in the normal form '[email protected]' this has now changed to;-
'Bill Smith([email protected]'
My friend thinks someone has been on their computer and changed things ????
What we would both like to know is how to get rid of this unknown 'Bill Smith'.
These addresses I am quoting here are not the real names as used in the Email addresses of course.
We could of course have him 'errased' or sent to the 'salt mines' for being such fool, but we have no idea who he is.
Have one of our cleverer friends a solution to this problem, please.

Open the email program.
Click on Tools > Accounts.
If your friend has only got one email account it will probably already be highlighted. Otherwise, click on the name of the relevant account to highlight it.
Click on 'Properties'.
If it's not already selected, click on the 'General' tab.
Correct the name field.
Click 'Apply' and then 'OK'.

are you sure the e-mail address isn't enclosed with greater than/smaller than signs?
Bill Smith<[email protected]>
Bill Smith<[email protected]>
The name can be different to the e/mail address. Similar to wildwood's example. In fact mine is. Consequently, as robin's friend has not prefixed the address with 'Bill Smith, I am thinking that someone, perhaps a family member, has used the friend's computer and thought it a bit of fun to alter the name of the account holder. I would be very surprised if someone without access to the friend's computer has hacked into the e/mail account.

I usually have an email from my friend using gmail, but his name stays the same but his email address has changed to yahoo
So I telephoned my friend and asked him if he sent the email and he said no,so I think someone is trying to get into my hard drive.
I didn't open the email up at all otherwise I don't know what would have happened???????
Just delete it and telephone your friend to see if they sent it.
Good Luck.
