Enhanced Disclosure Checks.

Hi, I have just been invited to an interview for a new job in a college, on one of the forms they are asking me about any criminal convictions or warnings, and that an enhanced disclosure check will need to be carried out before an offer of employment.
My question is how far back do these checks go, I have 2 convictions the first 24 years ago for fighting outside a club when I was 19, for which I was fined and the second 21 years ago for drunk and disorderly again for which I was fined. Both were court appearances.

Good luck scoob - if I can offer you any advice for the interview, it's to be yourself and be honest in your answers. I'll never forget trying to answer a question years ago when I really didn't know the answer - it would have been far better if I'd said "I don't know that, but I can soon learn".

They'll likely ask you about yourself and your skills, and why you want the job - and it helps if you can show that you know something about the company and its customer base (which you no doubt do, if you've worked there a while).

a question for the OP does the college or post your going for have vulnerable people or children there?

I have filled out a few of these, I have always declared my past history, everything comes up on your enhanced disclosure, mine goes back to when I was 16, lots of stuff on it then including me shooting someone, I am now nearly 56 and working in a care environment because I stayed out of trouble for 30+ years, I think most of us screw up a little when we are growing up.

You must declare everything or they wont even look at you when they see your CRB!

I am not sure about vulnerable but I think some of the lads and lasses can be as young as 15 but definately 16 onwards.

Hi scoob, I worked for the Probation Service and regularly had to request previous convictions from the police. They went back to the first conviction, some many years ago, but I was surprised to find that in some instances there were convictions missing from the report, although it was known that they should have been recorded. Don't know how that happened, probably poor recording on behalf of the police! Best to reveal all.

They will both appear conventions/reprimands/warnings don't get cleared off until your 100th birthday

Just a quick update for you nice people on my interview before I go out for my Thursday night poker tournament.
Interview went well, presentation was a bit nervy but I think I got through it ok. The question and answer after the presentation went very well and I managed to relax and calm down a bit.
As for my convictions, I did ask at the end and the head of HR and the college principle both said they were happy I was honest about it as if I had left it off and it showed up I would have been instantly discounted, not for the offences but for the deceit. They both said it probably would have showed up on the check and as I had been upfront about it they were not at all bothered about it as it was so long ago. They also said they had employed someone at the beginning of the year with a similar sheet as me but it wasnt as long ago as mine.
