The problem in this country is housing.

The house next door to me is rented out for £800 a month. How can youngsters afford that??

no more than the half a million to buy a bedsit, or one bedroom locally here in the capital. Most young people i know wouldn't have a hope in hell of finding the deposit, they have to move out of the capital, or on the fringes to find something to rent, buy.
