I'm thinking about moving into the world of the electrician, what would be the best course/courses to take so I'm fully qualified for installations/inspection and would this be the best path to take?I'm in full time employment and would need to take this as a part time course.
Does anyone have any advise on this subject?

Thanks

Just obvious stuff really:

  • you need to be NICEIC qualified. Look it up on the web.
  • I don't know the best courses but there must be something at your local FE college
  • look on the web for online-only courses, or for FE courses that combine on-site practical classes with online tutorials for the theory. Then you can do more work for home or at weekends.
  • I beleive there are specialisms but these generally come with experience: electricians discover what they're good at. Some prefer lots of small jobs and working with the general public; others club together with plumbers and builders to form a team for renovations and extensions; others move into retail with an installation department.
  • it can be decent money but you need to be reliable and efficient - then you build up repeat business and recommendations, you get to know developers in your area, you build experience and can go for longer contracts if you want with building companies and outfitters.
