Vanquis Credit Card

I've just had a phone call from a chap purporting to be from from Vanquis Credit Card. It came up as a Private Number on my mobile.

I had applied for a card a couple of weeks ago to try to repair my Credit Score. He asked me to confirm my address which I did and then asked for my bank account number and sort code. He said it was to speed my application up.

I didn't give him the information as it didn't sound right and asked him to write to me with this request. Did I do right?

I would always be VERY wary of ANYBODY who phones you up out the blue, even if you have previousy dealt with the company they say they are from.

There are far too many scammers out there to be giving away your personal information (I would not even have given them my home address)

So you did right.

Thanks VHG, I thought so. He had my name right though, so he could have looked me up on the Electoral Roll.

Better safe than sorry though.

hi, my husband applied to vanquis (on the internet) a couple of days ago and today they phoned to discuss the application. the phone number had 0161 area code..they never asked for his bank account and sortcode, only name, dob, address, employment. the call lasted about 10 mins and at the end they said that he was approved and would get the credit card in 14 days and what his limit was. good luck
i suggest you do phone them and ask about your application, maybe there was a mix up somewhere so they didnt phone.

Thanks mk1975. I think the number that came up was "Unavailable." It's been over two weeks since my application but I'm not desperate to have a card. I think I'll just wait until something arrives by post saying yes or no.
