Maine Coon Cats
Hi, Does anybody on here own a Maine Coon Cat ? We are thinking about getting a Maine Coon Kitten, but would like to find out a bit more about the breed before we commit ourselves. We have already done some research on the internet, which has been useful but hasn't actually answered some of the more important questions for us! How much will a Maine Coon Kitten cost ? Are they more like a dog than a cat(something that is often stated in forums by owners) ? Do they like water ? Any information that Maine Coon owners can give us will be very useful, as it will help us to decide if this particular breed of cat will be a suitable pet for us. We have always owned cats, but just wanted to know if the Maine Coon is so very different to an ordinary cat (moggie). Peace & Love, Zubar.

Hi. Our Maine Coone, Rufus, brings great joy to our household. He is now ten years old, extremely people orientated, very vocal when he has something to proclaim, loving to most, welcoming to all.Yes, thy are indeed high maintenance because their triple coat can become matted unless thoroughly groomed daily. They are remarkably healthy as a breed apart...

I don't know whether it will help you much, but it might give you something to be going on with until she 'clocks-in'.

Yeah, ive got one, or rather she owns us.
How much to buy? Ours was £470 un-nuetured, we've since had her neutered ourselves though.
No, she's a cat, not a dog- not sure exactly what you mean there?
Yes, she likes water, plays with it from taps.
Both us and our friends have main coons, and we've both discovered they're quite high maintenance, extremely vocal, and you've never met an animal as nosy until you've got a coony!
If you look further down, there's a post by me with a picture of mine slumped on top of my fridge.
Any more questions, feel free to ask :-)

They are remarkably healthy as a breed apart from a tendency towards red gums, which sometimes means they lose teeth earlier than other breeds.
The mothers train their kittens very well, which is why reputable breeders will not release a kitten to you until they are about 13weeks old. Once they have settled in most people become their slaves. We even have a notice which says
'A Maine Coon and his Staff live here'. which says it all.

i have a 3 year old female maine coon, she cost £350 pounds i keep her indoors she is lovely, quite timid, she does strange things like hanging upside down off chairs etc,she also has a habit of lifting the chrome plug out of the bathroom sink and bringing it downstairs.she also has a fetish for hair clips. She does chase after me up and downstairs. They also have a cute little mew like a bird chirping.the only downside is that she malts a lot so if you don't mind cat fur i'd reccomend a aine coon.
