The people who could best infiltrate potential terrorist groups are not likely to be old Etonians with good jobs in The City but more of Adebolajos ilk. The security services might use bribes, threats, or flattery, or some combination of all three,to recruit informers.
That they didn't work with him should have alerted MI5 to the fact that they were dealing with someone of conviction, and so, someone potentially more dangerous.
Who claimed that? Have you got a link?
I would find this beyond belief, and would like to see a link. I don't think MI5 headhunt in the lower ranks.
Surely they mean as an informer rather than as an employee?
Forgot to say that wasn't the first story I read on it, I see from this one the "friend" has now been arrested.
Thanks Daisy. I can believe they were ‘bugging’ him – and with good reason – but it doesn't appear that the possibilities of him working for the security services was discussed. Asking him if he wanted to work for them might have been some sort of tactic, but I doubt very much that it was a serious offer.

Now there's a surprise!
Why would such an offer not be serious?
What's new ? Security services do this all over the world . They make the best spies if you can get them to switch and even if they don't really, they are used to send missleading information to the enemy. What is more there are thousands of them . Where do you think security services get their inside information from. ?
maybe he got mixed up and he meant MFI.
Agree with Sandy and Modeller.
No doubt,at least some of, the bomb plots etc which have been foiled used this tried and trusted method.
he may have thought he would be working with MDF.
