Nhs No Experience Trainee Jobs

My friend is on a course paid by the NHS and he gets paid while he works and trains. Do they still do things like that? If so where can I find out about it. I've searched the NHS website but can't seem to find anything.

My son's GF has been doing an apprenticeship with the NHS trust and after 12 months she has been successful in getting a job in the records department, a lad at work has done the same apprenticeship and he has got a job in the department that allocates beds. the apprenticeships are poorly paid but full time and seem to lead to a permanent job in the trust
