Does anyone know how long it takes for your student loan to come through from the date you register for it?

I start a degree course via the open university in February ( which I haven't enrolled/registered for yet)

I want to register for the degree asap but my understanding is that I need to sort out my student loan first. I'm just not sure how long it takes for the whole finance thing to clear and be available to me from when I first sign up for the loan.

Is it complicated? I am currently 30 years old and I have never studied like this before and have never got a student loan so I'm totally cluless.

Thanks
