Firstly, forgive me for being so naïve, I am a complete technophobe. I am fluent in English but I do not understand technobabble.
I am a musician and I want to employ the use of an instrument called a Mellotron. These cost thousands so way out of my league.
I am told that there is an app that is for the Ipad which mimics a mellotron so that would be a much better option for me – still expensive but cheaper than the real thing.
I have looked at Ipads and there are lots of other similar looking machines but much cheaper again.

I have visited about half a dozen shops specialising in things like this and when I have tried to explain that I’m looking for a cheaper ‘machine’ than the Ipad that can become a mellotron, they’ve stared at me as if I’m from Mars and basically said that they can’t understand the first thing that I am on about.

Obviously I know that an Ipad will do the job, but if anyone knows of a cheaper option I’d be grateful if you can pass the information to me – frankly, I will have absolutely no use at all for whatever I buy apart from the mellotron facility.

I hope that makes sense – the assistants in the shops seemed to have great difficulty in getting their heads around my requests.
Thanks in advance

Tamborine - yes that's it. That's the Ipad version. Now I'm looking for a similar thing on a machine cheaper than the Ipad. Have had no information from 'them that know' in the shops as per my original posting.
It's exceedingly unlikely that any assistant in any store is going to know of one app which does what you want in the close on million apps which are out there, they're selling hardware not software. Try searching for Android (alternative to Apple) Mellotron app, if one turns up then you should be able to choose from a variety of machines running the Android operating system to run it, many of which will be cheaper than an iPad, but also, possibly, less robust.
