When I was at school the definition of this was "Science and practise of moving, lodging and supplying troops"
Now every other lorry has logistics on the sides. What on earth are they toting around? They can't all be filled with troops or can they?

the chartered institute of transport joined with the chartered institute of logistics and covers all forms of transport/ movements of goods and people.
CIT and CIL organisations providing information, advice and training.
