Beginner Stage Piano Playing Beginner Stages

I'm in the early stages of learning to play the piano [well keyboard actually]. I can just about cope with playing left hand chords and right hand melody. But when I try to do a simple 4 note accompaniment/rhythm [Theme from Amelie e.b.g.b., d.b.g.b., etc] the left hand almost goes random as soon as I start playing the right hand melody. Does this mean my co-ordination is not up to it or will it all fall into place if I just keep practicing?

Keep going Ray. I gave up after one lesson. I had expected to play like Rachmaninoff after that one lesson but all I learned was "I am C middle C right hand left hand middle C". OMG, it was soooo boring. So, don't give up Ray, one day you'll be great !

Jan's story is, sadly, all too common. I have to say that it's usually down to the teacher.
Keyboard is a steep learning curve. A good teacher, believe it of not, can make the process a lot more interesting, and less of a slog.

Think of it rather like learning to drive. Just as tedious, except that you don't notice it so much because you're petrified.

Try not to dwell on the tedium so much. Just relax and keep going until it becomes automatic.... it will :o)

One of the great definitions in the Jazz world is the difference between a Pro and an Amateur player. A learner will practise until he gets it right......... a Pro practises until he can't get it wrong :o)

I agree with The Builder I learned to play the piano or should I say I had piano lessons,I had a similar problem except if I knew the tune I was learning I would go haywire thhe thing is not to rush whatever you are trying to play ,play it slowly at firsy then you will find that as you speed to the correct tempo so the co-ordination falls into place ,Incidentally I play the drums my hand co-ordination is great as is my left foot on the Hi Hat but my right foot on the Bass Drum well it is so bad,anyway good luck do not try to rush , The Shard wasn't built without problems.
