I have written a number on a piece of paper. Now you have to answer some questions so that I can predict the the number that you pick: What is 5 times 5? What is 6 times 6? What is your favourite colour? Pick a number between 1 and 10. What number did you pick?

It's not working. It has to be verbal. You write the number 7 on a piece of paper, and then tell the person that you can read their mind, but they have to answer "What is 5 times 5?"; " What is 6 times 6?", "Name you favorite color"; "Pick a number between 5 and 10" Most people will, in fact, say 7. Try it.

And, of course, when they say 7, you proudly show them the piece of paper with 7 on it...Mind you, it doesn't work all the time...But it does most of the time.

The theory of it is that the first question contains 2 fives in the question and 1 five in the answer; the second question has 2 sixes in the question and 1 six in the answer; the next question takes their mind off the sequence of 5, 6; and most people will pick 7 for a number between 5 and 10.
