Cellulitis (Again!)

Have seen a GP and am on antibiotics for a patch on my leg which came up after discovering a bite (I assume as itchy lump) yesterday morning.

It was driving me crazy, especially in work today, hot, itching and irritating and a crawling like sensation and pain and am on painkillers anyway but am trying to think of a way of cooling it down and calming the irritation down in work when it's covered and overnight while the antibiotics hopefully do their thing.

I've been applying Eurax lotion on the back of cotton wool pads while at home, but am wondering if I lightly bandage over some Eurax on cotton wool pads under trousers while at work or bare legged overnight with Eurax on, would it risk the skin getting too woppy (not a very technical term I know!) or would I be better with more of a cream (I have germolene) or just leave well alone? I'm loathe to use medical tape to stick anything on as my skin can be funny with it and still have pitting odema round that area.

Thanks for any help.

Whilst at home, I would use frozen peas.....in a frozen pack of course..;-)

For work, 1%hydrocortisone cream would be my choice.

Thanks for that Sqad, will get the peas out now, got my leg raised too.

Will get some cream too, trying to think if I have any already though probably out of date by now. I know I have Fucidin which is relatively recent from an abscess and Daktarin (in case brown rash on foot was fungal, turns out it's from the fluid), would either of them do tomorrow until I can get to a pharmacy to get some new stuff?

Thanks for your advice.
No Fucidin is an antibiotic and Daktarin is anti fungal.

Better wait until tomorrow.

Will do, thanks. The lotion has already got rid of a lot of the line I drew round it earlier, pfft, cream should hopefully help stop that so much too.

Thank you again.
I know exactly what you're going through, as I had cellulitis in my leg about 20 years ago ..... very painful and itchy/irritating.
Keeping the leg raised, gave lots of relief - I even slept with my leg raised up on cushions :)
I was given tablets by my doctor, but unfortunately they didn't have any effect and I ended up in hospital on a drip for 10 days.
I haven't had any recurrence of it since .... I've got my fingers crossed for you for a full and speedy recovery :)

Thank you :) Glad they sorted yours out and thank you for the best wishes.

It finally seems to be fading after the antibiotics calmed it down so fingers crossed they have sorted it out and it will carry on that way.

It's not as irritable either now which is a blessed relief :) Have been trying to keep it raised when I can. Glad bits the weekend and I can take it easy.

Third time I've had it now but at least it seems to respond well to antibiotics, albeit the first one was harder to get rid off.

Damn biting things! Been a bite set it off each time.
