Morning all. A very good friend of mine has recommend that I should do an AAT Course (accounting). I currently work in Admin and do feel that I don't have a great deal of prospects as its not seen as a skilled job so pay rates are pretty much the same. Does anyone have any experience of this course. I have looked at it online and sent for information but would like to know what people think. Thank you
yes I do AAT level (2) - three hours a week - and some homework.
I am 63 and 1/2 and hadnt realised how difficult it is to get adult education nowadays ( there used to be WEA but that has all gone and we did things like Arabic and NT Greek ) [ there is no evg class for Math A level in Manchester ]
and have found it very useful - as someone who needs the skill for themselves. About half way through the year and one in the class has got an internship - ( polka ). Some of the younger anglo kids already work in pay roll offices
Not intellectually demanding - you have to be able to add accurately
and yes it is seem as a stepping stone for those who have wasted their educational opportunities at skool .....
There is a 'test' before you start - I plugged in at level 2 - if you flunk it you have to do level 1 which is one years worth of fundamental arithmetic. The entry to level 2 is .... fundamental arithmetic. You get a column of figures ( costs ) and asked to increase their value by different percents and you get marked right if you get it right
Honestly I find it very useful
No AAT are not paying me for this
the college has a small law library which I have access to as a student so all in all it is worthwhile
A friend of mines daughter is doing this course and she has now heard her boss is recommending that her Company pay for the next stage up and are offering her a promotion,so ts well worth doing anything that can get you a better job.
ahh for the young people they have calculators
and they get them out and go clackety clackety clack
and we olds look serene....one asked do you know HOW to use a calculator ? and I said we all do this stuff in our heads - I got a degree before calculators came out ....
You do a lot of basic book keeping which I think is a useful exportable skill to be honest -
O I forgot - the class will be mixed ability adult teaching - the people who take these classes are like Saints - the ones under twenty especially turn up late - wont face the front - play around - text the whole time - There is a buzz of russian and portuguese which they say is continuous translation ( but I understand portuguese and its is mainly about coronation street and make up ) -so it is a bit of a zoo ....
Only one or two have done degrees which means they turn up on the hour and expect to sit quietly as the teacher lectures for an hour - and when he finishes they get up and walk out
the rest yap continuously - text when they arent listening which means the whole time - some are so dim they dont fact the lecturer when he is talking .... and any time over they spend trying to get into each others knickers .....
