...about the circus across the pond. It was impressive watching them dismantle and leave town.....but....
The one camel I saw in the field would be put in a box and driven to Castlebar....a few miles away....then tethered in a field......taken into the ring I guess....then back in the box.....and another drive...another town....
The circus advertises tigers......but has been taken to task for false advertising so maybe they don't have tigers now...but they once did....in awful conditions.
And circuses with performing animals have been given huge grants from the Irish Arts Council.......Art??......
Strange, isn't it.....the things we humans do to animals.......... :-(
It's Courtney's Daredevil Circus by the way....if you want to avoid it too....x
Who owns the land where they were performing? In the UK most local authorities won't allow circuses with animals to use their land and many other landowners take a similar stance. I'm surprised that the same doesn't seem to apply in Ireland . Perhaps someone should encourage local residents to protest to the relevant land owner?
The land is a large car park in Wesport Quay, Chris....so I guess the council. I have been googling about and noticed all the protests.....
I also noticed how few people went into the circus.....no queues and a very short performance.....and the Quay has been buzzing with families today so maybe most are avoiding it......x
I used to run a Sporting Club on the heath outside town.
One morning I was driving up the entrance road and behind the trees near the clubhouse were 3 elephants! I nearly drove off the road in surprise, but they were with a circus that was setting up. I had not realised it was arriving. This was back in 1982.
