Dont Know What To Do

just got back home from A&E. Was woken in the early hours by shouts and screaming. BOTH my son and his girlfriend had slashed their arms/wrists. My son was out of control and punching doors and walls, called police and ambulance. Paramedics seemed to think that he had broken his knuckles. Went hospital with them but after waiting 2 hours they walked out and rang a taxi.
Cuts on both are quiet deep. Son very tearful saying that he doesn't want to live.
I'm at my wits end because I don't know what to do, I'm struggling with my own mental health at the moment as well, but concerned for both of them.
Just needed to get this of my chest, don't know where to turn.

They both need to get back to hossie to get cuts dressed and psych evaluation.... don't try and take too much on... Gawd what a worry...

I know they do Minty but they wouldn't stay (6 hour wait)Don't understand how they could BOTH do what they did?

Too much for you to take on nailit.... are they still bleeding ? Ambulance cases usually go straight to cubicles here.. are they under the influence of anything ?

Need to get wounds seen to before infection sets in.... Will they listen to sense ?

They are not bleeding now, I too thought that they would have gone to a cubicle but A&E seemed to be extra busy tonight

I don't know what else to suggest nailit. They do both need a psychiatric assessment I think. That is not rational behaviour.

Not much sense in them tonight. Both asleep at the moment. Will have to see what happens when they wake up later.

Always happens at weekends ... do you have the stuff to do a temp dressing ? If so wait till they wake, they may be more sensible after a sleep, get the wounds clean and covered...and back to hossie , he'll Need x Ray.... what about phoning her family ? She's not your worry really...

No idea what to add to above post, save to offer pointless sympathy for you and your son and his girlfriend. Doesn't society have something that forces folk to be treated when they're self harming ? (A 2 hour wait for treatment is disgusting, the targets for waiting times are ridiculously lax.)

It would have been the sensible thing to do my friend. See what they are like when they wake up. They should go back to A&E soonest.

O-G the estimated waiting time was actually 6 hours, they just decided to leave after 2. As for forcing self harmers into treatment, as ive said many times on here, mental health treatment is beyond a joke.

It's getting close to needing police involvement. Possibly under the Mental Health Act.
