Is It About Time The Government, Police And Courts Started Addressing These Savages?
15 Answers
More savages robbing pensioners, this time they killed the pensioner.
And before any wag mentions it, nothing to do with Police numbers, they can't be in every pensioners home.
We need tougher sentences, minimum jail 5 years for burglary (and no time off or halved). The Government need to build prisons and change the law to force proper sentencing, The Police need to push for a decent sentence and the Judiciary need to drop this wishy washy liberal approach that clearly does not work.
Maybe it wont deter (bet it will for some) but at least it removes the scum from the streets so they cant repeat the offence 50 times before someone take it slightly seriously.

Research tends to show it's not the length of the sentence but the certainty of getting one that deters. Burglars clearly know the chances of getting caught are minimal. And police know their main job is making out reports that victims can give their insurance companies.

// ludwig, it is unlikely that a shortage of police officers will affect specialist departments like the CID who will be responsible for investigating this and other crimes. //
I do agree that the first priority would be reforming sentencing.
I'm tired of reading about sickeningly violent people being let out early from already inadequate prison sentences only to go and ruin (or end) more people's lives.
Some kind of 3 strikes and you're out policy for non-violent but misery causing scumbags wouldn't go amiss either.

//How about attempting a serious reply for once pp? If you think current sentencing is adequate why not say so, and explain why, instead of this boring sarcasm.//
Peter Pedant's frequent visits to AB aren't motivated by any serious intent - they're made for amusement only. Watch out for a cross-dressing version of PP from an earlier age (the one holding the fan) visiting an AB of its time:
