What would be a good gift to get a 12 year old boy who`s interested in architecture and design ?

Search on Amazon for David Macaulay or Francis Ching - both write superb books about architecture designed for kids/young adults.

I would be inclined to try and find an architecture workshop so he gets the whole experience.

There's also the interior design show at the NEC which usually falls in January of each year.

It's a fantastic profession to get into. My husband and I never miss an episode of Grand Designs!

Whenever I know that a youngster has an interest in a particular subject (whether that be aircraft, dinosaurs, sharks or whatever), my first though when looking for a gift is to see if Dorling Kindersley (or 'DK' as they now seem to style the company) publish something suitable. (They produce some superb books for younger children but their books aimed at adult audiences are easily accessible to those who're in the early years of secondary education too).

A good drawing board with horizontal bar etc. I know a lot of it is done on computer these days but A1 or even A2 size board is a statement piece in his bedroom or study area and useful for large drawings/plans etc.

Nobody draws plans by hand , I’m afraid.

I would probably look for some good software he probably already has some he aspires to, and pay for it for him. When i was that age I really benefited from having good tools to practice with. If he's used to the proper kit he will have a head start when he takes it further.

A good set of maths instruments. Always handy.

People don’t use those either, WBM. All done on programmes such as AutoCAD and Revit.
