RE. isn't something that is anywhere near essential in todays world but First Aid should be taught in every school and I don't mean a quick course, it should be on the curriculum for sure, imagine the lives that could be saved.!!

I wonder if it is on the curriculum in any other countries?

I’m glad it’s taught (and I shall be emailing the school to thank them) but I think instilling the ability to stay calm needs to somehow transferred to the kids as well (my daughter was cool as a cucumber, but her slightly elder brother who has done the same first aid just froze).
what - an hour a week
what do you say after the first week ?

and what is the project for week 51 ?
first aid 51 - putting a small child on cardiac bypass ?
yeah ABC works wonders ....

Now now Peter, if you think there is not enough to learn on the subject, maybe you need to do a course or two yourself to find out.

I donate £3 a month to the local Red Cross who promote the teaching of basic first aid in schools, money well spent imo.
I think it would be a good idea, children should learn how to help others and save lives.
I think there is a place for both
Is there a connection between the two ?
Taught instead of[i RE?

It is impossible for us to understand our culture, its history and much of our art and literature [i]without] knowing something about Christianity.

You wouldn't disagree with that, would you Ratter?

Sure they could teach it along with history but it doesn't need to have so much valuable time dedicated to it.
We never did proper RE at school, which I really regret.
I’m sure there’s a place in school for learning of the world’s religions AND first aid too.
But that's not the view that's taught is it.
What view?
There’s proposals to make first aid and CPR training compulsory from 2020.
In my final year at school, I took human biology as one of my science options. Surprising to think back, that this wasn't taught as a matter of course within that context.

Have you got a link please Sherrardk?
Havnt heard about that,
Sound good to me.

Mine all did First Aid in their Citizenship lessons. I didn't know if it was a requirement or not- but it should be. RE is actually a compulsory GCSE- at this school at least, which does seem a big step backwards. It would be better as part of History, Sociology or Psychology, rather than a whole subject in its own right.

VE, why on Earth don't you learn to use italics?
