In the Express today is this announcement.
Arts Council England has decided to do away with the word "artist" and replace it with "creative practitioner"
Also "Art" is to be replaced with "creative Content"
There is no mention as to why they have done this.
Any ideas folks?

They needed to find a use for one of their spare committees?
Broadens the definition so it encompasses other creative forms that wouldn't normally be called "art"? Eg film or photography-related media?

I'm not sure what makes it "nannying".
//Interestingly the report opens with a note about language, saying that ACE is shifting from using ‘art’, ‘the arts’ and ‘artists’ to use instead the terms ‘culture’, ‘creativity’ and ‘creative practitioners’, as their research has shown what the general public understand by the old terms is narrower than ACE’s own definition.//

I see the point and it sits OK with me.
I'm not sure I'd call it nannying, but it does sound pretentious.

Art and artist do not need doing away with. Perfectly explanatory terms.
I think it's all about perception, especially when it comes to the educational side - my Grandson will soon be starting a Graphic Arts Course, a strand he is very good at.

However he also has to provide a broader portfolio of other media he has never dabbled in to show his willingness to learn the whole subject.

He is now relishing that.

Caran , 'nannying' would mean you'd get your knuckles rapped somehow if you called someone an artist.

Not so.
Of course they are explanatory terms and most people will continue to use them.
I'm all for brevity.
Will the Council be changing their name too?
One mans art is another mans ......?
Good question Corby :-)

I suppose the Creative Contents Council England are protecting the image of their Creative Practioners,
