book with character called N

Last night i was reading a few pages of the book the girl next to me on the train had (annoying - i know!). It seemed really good but i felt silly asking her what it was and rude as i had been reading it over her shoulder.

all i know was that it is set out in diary form with the dates of each entry written in French, thought the rest of the text was English. It had a character called N (who was not the narrator) and was possible about a sex worker or someone in that industry. Does anyone have any clue what it might have been?

It could be 'Belle De Jour'. That book is definitely about a call girl and often mentions N. The author is anonymous and I believe the original diary entries came from a blog that is still online.
