what is the earning difference between an associate and a partner in relation to solicitors . For example 6 or 7 years post qualification in a largeish norther city firm. Not a commercial practice

There is such a wide variation in solicitors' and partners' salaries that it's difficult to provide standard figures. For instance, I know of associate solicitors (5 years plus PQE) earning as little as �30k in large regional firms (family and criminal law tend to pay less well) and others who practice in commercial fields or who are in-house lawyers on well over �70k (plus bonuses on top). Partners' salaries can also vary widely depending on the profitability of the firm.
