Law Work Experience

Does anyone know what are the best sorts of firms to target for work experience? I'm only 16 and i have heard it is really difficult to get a placement. I'm looking for a week's placement after my GCSE exams. I spoke to my freinds dad who is a solicitor, he said i cant go to his company because i am too young but recommended going to the law courts. is a good place for experience? i live about 30 mins from london so it wouldnt be too hard to get to london but my town is quite big so there are a few smaller firms. unfortunately i have to find a placement my self because the school does not provide any contacts. what is the best stuff to put in a letter?
