University Exams/Degrees

Does anyone know what happened to the university students who would have been taking their final exams in May this year? I know some medical students were awarded their degrees early and rushed into work in hospitals etc, but I haven't seen or heard what happened to all the others. Were they awarded their degrees just based on earlier coursework, as school pupils were with their A levels?

Funny you should say that, bednobs, as recently I was chatting to a neighbour who did a degree at Warwick when she was in her 50s, and she didn't have to sit any exams, it was all coursework! Jeez, I would have loved that at uni, but I had brutal exams to do, and I can still remember the fear lining up to go into the intimidating exam hall.....

Not sure I understand how exams can be done online without concerns about cheating - for example an 'unseen' translation.

Most of my son’s finals were in January, so he had say them before The pandemic hit. He had one module left apart from his diss. And that was supposed to be 50/50 coursework and exam, buy they changed it to 100% coursework. He finished by mid May.

Youngest son had the final exam of his first year online. It was sat 'live' online. I asked about cheating and his reply was 'well you just don't do you? it would be stupid. I suppose if you are getting 45 -50 marks in your coursework then get a 98 in your exam your tutors might get suspicious.

I think most unis do there own thing tbh. My daughter finished her first year with online exams which she thought was stupid. It was open book so you couldn’t really fail.

I work in a Uni, our students all did their final exams online (we don't have dissertations).

For the essay type exams they had 24 hours from downloading the paper to submit each one so whilst students were advised not to, they could access text books and notes. You would think that they couldn't fail wouldn't you...

The numeric ones were a timed exam, available for 24 hours but once you opened it you had 2 hours to finish.

also the exam is NOT the time to start a new chapter

Land Law - you got land low statutes, but I didnt like this as I had no difficulty in memorising statutes altho every one else did ...

they all got their degrees in Manch - and had a virtual degree day - less fun

I am always disappointed that people think they ( exam results ) really mean something ...

as if - - - the cabinet is full of the very best graduates from Oxbridge - or Trump got he best economics degree....

Sciences - even in my day - the theoretical physics results bore no correlation with the practical physics results.....altho I have to agree that the first class lawyers seemed to know a lot of law ....

Maff - my comment in the right milieu that a first in maff just meant you were very good at maff exams, brought forth anguished howls. But I had to agree that the post grad maff courses were aimed at those who were good at maff exams
