employers control over employees

Can anyone point me toward info as to how much control an employer has over the out of hours, private activities, of an employee. No criminal charges involved

Well, they have no control over your private life in the fact they cant stop you playing football or having a pint and a game of pool but if you are getting drunk and are over the limit by the time you come to work and are "unfit" for work then there can be serious reprocutions otherwise general things like football etc they cant stop you doing unless its written in your contract.

Example most F1 drivers arent allowed to ride a motorcycle as its detremental to the teams health.

So long as you are on time and able to work hard for the time you are at work, they have no say.

a friend of mine had a go at her boss on a work night out a couple years ago. it ended up quite a bad shouting match and had it not been for other people stepping in, probably wouldve resulted in a physical fight. my friend was worried that she would get into trouble when she went back to work but she didnt. In fact, the manager got pulled up by HR and asked what had been done wrong for an empoyee to feel this way.

Some companies have something in their contracts to stop you having a second job. They cannot stop you shopping at Tesco's and swimming the channel at the weekend. They just expect you to come to work sober and drug free.
