I don’t know what anyone else thinks, but I think it’s appalling that school children aren’t now allowed to go to the loo during lesson times, in some schools.
And even worse, girls have to show a red card if they’re on their period!!
I went to an all girls grammar school so it wouldn’t have been so much of an issue, but I can only imagine how some girls would feel in a mixed sex school having to produce a red card!!

Not heard of this.

Do the girls wave the red card every five minutes, every day ?
//And even worse, girls have to show a red card if they’re on their period!!//
Yes its wrong,,,,but I cant believe its common, maybe just one school. There are some jobs like on a till and where you got to plan your loo visits around your slot...and I bet teacher's can't just leave lessons to go to the loo leaving the class unsupervised
Well, you don't want children wandering around the school unsupervised. The damage could be horrendous.
Every school I ever taught in insisted that the teacher would write a 'toilet pass' which the child handed in on his/her return to the classroom. That way you could keep check on who was out and when - just in case someone set the fire-alarm off for instance. No-one ever saw any problem with that.
The red card thing is horrible, you're right there.
Where is this, Vagus? My granddaughter was born with three kidneys. After operations she had, for a few years, to go to the toilet immediately. Occasionally a teacher would be awkward which was embarrassing but soon addressed by her parents.
I never stopped a pupil going to the toilet. If they are messing about it's easily dealt with.
We never got a 'toilet pass'. We were just asked how many sheets of paper we needed. Saved a lot of embarrassment.
Any teacher worth her/his salt knows which children want to go to the toilet and which want to mess about and that teacher knows how to deal with it.
my nieces school is strict on toilets, pupils can get a pass if the have a medical problem and can go in a emergency but have to get there planner signed and it shows up if they go regular and miss class. The school banned pupils leaving to fill water bottles to. as there were to many kids wandering around unsupervised and someone got injured breaking a window and the school was blamed for not supervising

I agree with gness, those pupils who will mess about are already known, this penalises others whose needs are genuine.
Imagine being a shy young girl who has not long started menstruating having to show a red card to go to the loo to sort herself out..in front of a mixed sex class!!
have you got a link please vagus as it seems unbeleivable so i'd like to see the details...
Thanks so 3 schools out of thousands... yes its a silly policy but schools just cant let kids wander off unsupervised whenever they want.. I dont know the answer but it should allow dignity but also ensure proper supervision. Having to wave a red car seems unbelievable and somehow i doubt that it works like that... a simple medical toilet pass shown to the teacher should be enough
Bob. I doubt there is one adult on this site who hasn't been caught short at some time.
Imagine. Lucy has a pass to use the toilet whenever she needs to. Tommy doesn't but one day he really needs to go. He is refused because he doesn't have the pass and that is the rule. Tommy wets himself or worse.....he may have a tummy upset. Is that fair?
If the teacher allows Tommy to go as he/she should what is the use of the medical pass.
Most teachers have commons sense.

how do they choose which teacher gets to stand outside the toilets all day inspecting passes? I'll bet that's not what they think they trained for.
The last one to annoy the head or the caretaker, Jno. :-)
What are the chances that something as appalling as a 'red card' rule, was dreamed up by a man?

Answers on a twenty-pound note to my usual address ...
I never said anything about that guess.a system of passes for those that need them. Teacher discretion but logged in planners and follow up if thought to be exessive as some are just looking to skive and take phones and meet up with mates prefer to go in lessons than at break or lunch or between classes
Bob. You said a simple
Medical pass should be enough. I say that is a dreadful idea.
Chill Gness. A pass is for those that need it gness. Like those with conditions ... they can go without question. It could even be just a flaf=g on the register not a big card they wave. In fact most schools us ethem no problem, Whats stupid about that gness. Everyone else is at teachers discretion but a record kept to stop abuse.
I hate thinking I am discussing something with someone and they say….. chill. It’s a poor way to end offering different opinions. I never need to chill.
bobbin \3 schools out of thousands... yes its a silly policy\

Is it such a silly policy if those schools have been placed in special measures?
