Been off sick from work for a while with anxiety, didn’t think I’d bring myself to go back in was going to jack in my career but I went back (on phased return) at the start of this week. I happened to be joining a different team so I didn’t know anyone.

However I have shown myself up. I have been experiencing some odd symptoms for the past 6 weeks (strong tickle below adams apple, very dry cough which led to whistling) It’s odd as my nasal passages and windpipe feel more like a hard pipe than airways. The symptoms have been on and off.

Anyway it got worse at work today and my windpipe felt tight for several minutes then my lungs felt irritated/almost itchy. I was worried it was a severe case of asthma or hyeprsensitivity or something. I rushed out of work in a panic and told 2 collegues who just looked at me like I was strange and said you’l be ok.

Then as I was leaving work I felt a tightening sort of in my nasopharynx extending to my ears (I have had this to a mild degree in the past) and felt that I couldn’t exhale properly through my throat. I started to feel dizzy I think from the panic but I rushed to a pharmacy across the way and asked if I could check my oxygen sats which they let me do.

I then felt a little better and drove home. I have seen the gp about this but he didn’t really diagnose just said my lungs were clear. I rang again today and they said they think it is anxiety and acid reflux. Hopefully Omeprazole will work, though I have had no burning/indegestion anything like that.

I have honestly worked for years with no issues like this I am usually very quiet and drama free but I know the team I have just started with will be thinking what the hell.

Has anyone been through similar at work, panicking?

Nope.
"I am usually very quiet and drama free" - not according to all your previous posts on here.
I am not an expert, nor even a beginner, but have you considered the possibility that you had a panic attack? From experience I know they can manifest in different ways

I was thinking the same Lankeela when I was typing that I was drama free lol.
Ok fine, not drama free but everyone says I’m too quiet in real life.

Barry - yea it was a panic attack too
From your previous posts it seems to me that what you are suffering from is hypochondria. You need to get back to work and stop worrying what other people think. You don't know how lucky you are - I am waiting for a phone call to tell me my best friend aged just 53 has passed away in the nursing home, having suffered a series of strokes and then being diagnosed with cancer, which has spread and is untreatable. She has been fading this past week and other visitors today were told to say their goodbyes and I will visit tomorrow if she is still with us, but that seems doubtful. Be grateful you don't have anything seriously wrong with you.

My thoughts are with you lankeela. I know what you mean there are people much worse off. I’m going back many years but my childhood friend died at 13 from a ruptured appendix it shows we should be grateful to just grow older
My friend passed away at 1 a.m. this morning. I hope everyone makes the most of each day and doesn't dwell on what might or might not happen.
